Expanded Overview: Onboarding Evaluation & Separation Protocols
Key Employment Considerations:
Probation Periods
Probation is commonly used in India to assess suitability during the early stage of employment. The exact duration should be set out in the employment contract and can vary by role, seniority and company policy.
Notice During Probation
Notice requirements during probation are typically shorter than after confirmation, but the applicable period should be defined contractually and managed in line with the employee’s terms of employment and relevant local requirements.
Post-Confirmation Notice Periods
For many professional and technology roles in India, contractual notice periods can be longer than those commonly seen in the UK. The exact period varies by employer, role, seniority and contract, and may include provisions for payment in lieu of notice where permitted.
Performance Management & Termination
Where employment is ended because of performance, conduct, redundancy or another business reason, the process should be documented and handled consistently. This may include probation reviews, performance improvement plans, written warnings, notice requirements and final settlement obligations.
